Goodman with Stunning Kitchen in Rock Creek Woods
You have to see this kitchen in my new listing in Rock Creek Woods, the Charles Goodman-designed community just north of Kensington in Maryland. You can see the images here.
The open kitchen features custom millwork cabinets with maple interior, adjustable shelves and push-to-open concealed mechanisms. The countertops, island and flooring are honed absolute black granite with a waterfall-end feature on the island. Stainless steel appliances include Bosch convection oven and 5-burner gas cook top, LG refrigerator, Kenmore Elite dishwasher, Kohler Sink with KWC faucet and Zephyr exhaust hood. The kitchen is outfitted with LED lighting, including indirect LED under the cabinets. The commercial-grade laminate backsplash opens to reveal additional storage space. The design was done by the owners who are both architects.
The central focus of the two-level, 4 bedroom/3 full bathroom 2,442 square foot home is the top-floor open kitchen-dining-living area. The expansive space features Goodman’s signature large brick fireplace, hardwood floors and walls of glass that allows for unfettered views of the trees, including the explosion of cherry blossoms in the spring. The house, known as the “Brookview” model, is sited on a .22 acre lot nestled into a knoll.
The two upstairs bathrooms also have been completely renovated with honed slate floors and Kohler low-flush toilets, pedestal sinks, faucets and medicine cabinets. The master bathroom (see below top) features a custom enclosed glass shower with penny round Carrara marble, linear drain and soaring skylight. The hall bath (below bottom) features a glass-tile walled shower/tub.
The lower-level has a large den with fireplace and the fourth bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The bedroom is currently being used as an office but could be used two create two full bedrooms as other owners have done in the neighborhood.
The main entrance reflects the home’s modern architectural pedigree with walls of glass, slate floor and dramatic open stairway. The large utility/laundry room located on the lower level provides plenty of room for storage and is highlighted by a new LG washer (top loading), Kenmore Elite Dryer and a new RUDD 40-gallon water heater. The furnace is equipped with an ultraviolet filtration addition and the plumbing is zoned for individual area shutoff.
Sited in the peaceful setting of mature trees in the National Register of Historic Places-designated neighborhood of Rock Creek Woods, this 1959 mid-century modern home is located just outside the Beltway, the home is close to the shops, restaurants and MARC in Kensington, the Wheaton Metro and Beltway access off Connecticut Avenue. It is also close to the popular cycling/running trail and playgrounds along Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park.
