Library of Congress Reference Librarian Gillian Mahoney does a deep-dive into the mid-century modern architecture of Charles M. Goodman, one of the D.C. area’s most influential mid-century architects. The 45-minute online presentation, Finding Pictures: Charles Goodman Collection, examines Goodman’s career and includes a host of images and drawings from the library’s collection, which was donated by Goodman’s widow, Dorothy. She discusses his early career as a government architect and then his private work in Hickory Cluster, Hollin Hills, Hammond Wood and Hammond Hill, including reviewing the various designs that can be found in the neighborhoods. She also discusses his time with National Homes, the builder of pre-fab homes, his designs for the ALCOA House and the aluminum company’s River Park in Southwest DC. She also discuss a number of his custom, private homes and tells the audience how to use the collection for research purposes.
