I just listed and sold one of the rare Takoma Avenue Charles Goodman-designed mid-century modern homes in an off-market, Compass Private Exclusive sale. The 3 bedroom/1.5 bathroom home closed at $800,000. The previous sale for one of the five Goodmans closed at $560,000 in 2012. The cluster of five homes was the first Goodman neighborhood to by listed in the National Register of Historic Places. "The houses on Takoma Avenue, some of Goodman's earliest work in the county, exhibit signature features of Charles M. Goodman's design credo: angled or "skew" siting on their lots, the actual placement of the houses within the lot to conform to topography, the interesting juxtaposition of a variety of materials (brick, wood, plywood, and glass), and a preponderance of glass to provide a connection between the interior and exterior environments," according to the Maryland Historical Trust. "Goodman's designs were noteworthy for making a small house seem quite spacious by employing an open plan and large expanses of glass that reached out to incorporate the outdoors." Please contact me to learn more about other Goodman listings and how to learn about Private Exclusive listings before they are sold.
