1976 SoHo-Style Duplex in Reston – $290K

SoHo Reston

While Reston has a number of mid-century modern townhomes by the likes of Charles Goodman and Chloethiel Woodard Smith, there are even more townhomes and condos from the 1970s. Not sure that I have seen any from this later time period that look as cool as this one listed for $290K. This 2 bed/2 bath duplex looks like a SoHo loft with open floor plan and 11-foot windows. The 1976 condo uses brick, block and slab construction techniques and has raw concrete ceilings, slate entry and dark bamboo floor.

Unlike New Yorkers, who never actually use their kitchens, you can cook here using a Miele oven, Gaggenau cooktop and Silestone counters. The condo has a view of a golf course, preserve stream and woods. It is located one mile from the future Wiehle Avenue Metro. An open house will be held 1 to 4 Sunday, Nov. 18. You can see more images here.

remarkably, I have been in this space, almost exactly nine years ago, when it still had raw concrete floors, too. Basically, the owner demo’d it and left it almost raw. It’s the industrial equivalent of tearing up wall-to-wall to reveal hardwood floors.

It is very cool and unexpected, which is also a nice way of noting that the complex it is located in is so generic/invisible.
