My New Listing: Rare Goodman in Hollin Hills with Garage

I just listed this Charles Goodman-designed mid-century modern in Hollin Hills. Priced at $709K. This renovated features three large main floor bedrooms and a rare one-car garage perfect for your vintage car or storage space. Thanks to Pierre Paret of Acme Mid-Century + Modern for providing much of the staging. Please check out his new shop at 1218 King Street in Old Town for your mid-century modern furniture needs.

Goodman’s design, known as Unit House No. 4 and built in 1952, places the three bedrooms, including master suite, on the main floor while combining the public spaces—kitchen, dining and living room and third bathroom—on the lower level. The open entertaining space has a full wall of glass overlooking the patio and deep .32 acre wooded, lot.

The house, which has a gravel driveway and is set back from the street, features expansive double-pane glass in the light and open entrance that highlights interior brick walls, original modernist slat handrails and newly refinished hardwood floors (main level). The master suite with walk in closet area and Jacuzzi tub is set in the back of the house. A full wall of glass (with electronic blinds for privacy) overlooks the backyard. There are two additional large bedrooms and a large hallway bath with double sinks. All the bedrooms have ceiling fans.

The lower level includes a rare—for Goodman—interior fireplace with brick floor surround, side brick wall and back wall of glass.

The open living-dining-kitchen area opens to the large, wraparound patio, which includes a large screened in area with ceiling fans. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and breakfast bar. The third bathroom is just off the kitchen and next to the utility/laundry room.

Hollin Hills, comprised of 450 modernist homes with 30 acres of parkland and a pool and tennis club, is just 5 miles south of Old Town Alexandria, less than 10 to National Airport and 13 to Capitol Hill. The Fairfax County neighborhood has been recognized as one of the groundbreaking modernist suburban communities to be developed post-World War II.
