Moyaone Reserve, where all lots are more than 5 acres and are protected by scenic easements deeded to the federal government, is located just 10 miles south of the Beltway and 24 miles from Capitol Hill.

The current main living space is a 1968 A-Frame with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. The A-Frame was built by the current seller’s father—an engineer by training—from plans that were made popular at the time by the producers of wood and other building products.

“Between the 1950s and the early 1970s, the A-frame house became the quintessential American vacation home type,” the web site A-Frame History says. “It was a do-it-yourself dream come true for the middle class, a symbol of success, a place for escape and a place to entertain, a swinging bachelor pad and a crucible of family togetherness.”

The 640 square-foot wood-constructed home features an open kitchen, open dining and living room and full bath on the main level.

The two bedrooms, each with their own balconies, make up the top level of the house, which overlooks a stunning wooded ravine.

Front and back decks on the ground level are accessed via large sliding glass doors.

The Goodman-designed building was a later addition from earlier plans crafted for the family. The 1,152 square foot open studio is surrounded by walls of glass, including sliding glass doors. The space is unfinished but is connected to water and electricity and could be finished to create an additional living space or a more finished artist studio or workshop.

The structure currently includes one garage door and bay. The space could make an ideal car enthusiast’s workshop. The building originally featured one of Goodman’s “butterfly” roofs but was changed after originally built.

The design of both structures connects the spaces with the surrounding natural beauty of the secluded and peaceful wooded property, which includes a tree-lined approach that leads to a circular gravel driveway.

Both buildings are being sold in as-is condition.

Moyaone Reserve is contiguous to Piscataway National Park, home of the National Colonial Farm, and to The Hard Bargain Farm, an environmental education center. The neighborhood is located across the across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon home. Community amenities include a swimming pool and community center, playground, community garden, nature trails, boardwalk through wetlands and summer concerts and outdoor theater.
