1955 MCM in Lake Barcroft – $1.165 Million

Lake Barcroft

Although not in a warmer climate, I like this 1955 mid-century modern that sits above the water in Lake Barcroft.  Listed for $1.165 million, the 4 bedroom/3 bath features a butterfly roof and double-sided fireplace to keep you toasty. Lake Barcroft in Falls Church has one of the areas largest concentration of mid-century and mid-century modern homes, including some designed by Charles Goodman and one by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius. The driving force behind the community was Barger, who bought the 135-acre lake and surrounding 566 aces for $1 million in 1950, according to an interesting 2001 history of the community written by longtime resident Anthony Bracken.
