Farm Rd2

Looking for something interesting and not a colonial in Alexandria? This 1937 International-Style home was designed by Samuel Lorin Powell, a government architect who designed the house for his own family. Powell, a ¬†decorated Marine Corps veteran of World War I, worked for the Federal Work’s Agency and designed the home to inject “modern design and modern building materials to the affordable housing debate that raged in the depression era Congress and FDR Administration,” according to information provided by the listing agent who has the four bedrooom home ¬†listed for $899K and open this Sunday from 1-4 pm. In 1952, Powell built a similar home a few doors down. The cost of the home when it was built was an estimated $10,300. Check out the¬†cylindrical helix stairwell below.
