Penthouse at The Waterford in Kensington – $299K

The Waterford

Whenever I pass by The Waterford Condominium on University Boulevard in Kensington, the big, wavy condo building with screen block dividers between balconies reminds me of the buildings along AIA in West Palm and Boca. I finally stopped in to take a look at this 3 bedroom/2 bath penthouse listed for $299K. A nice wall of glass and balcony surrounds the entire living-dining room area allowing for  pretty spectacular suburban view of the tree tops and surrounding area, including Bethesda and Rockville.

The Waterford sign

I like the 1970s lowercase font on the sign.

  1. Heard from Clare Lise Kelly, MoCo’s Research and Designation Coordinator of the Historic Preservation Section, on more of the history of the Waterford:

The building was originally built in 1963 and was called the Helenwood. It had 148 units and was marketed as “a queen among apartments.” The name changed to Waterford when the apartments were converted to condos in 1973.
