Price Reduced: Wright-Inspired Retreat on 7 Acres – $580K; Open 5/5
Longtime readers of the site know I love when fellow real estate agents describe every modern or “contemporary” house as being inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. My new listing in Moyaone Reserve in Accokeek actually was inspired by Wright’s organic architecture. The house will be open 1-4 on May 5 and is listed for $580K. It is located here. Here is the full slideshow.
Set on nearly seven stunning acres, this 1959 mid-century modern was designed by the original owner, a devotee of Wright’s architecture, and custom built. This is the first time it is on the market since the 1960s and is being sold by the second owner and her family, who have lovingly maintained the house for the past 50 years. While the neighborhood is located only 20 to 25 minutes from Old Town Alexandria and Washington, D.C., it feels a world away.
Here’s the house during the fall.
From its heated flagstone floors to its expansive windows and soaring roof line in the great room, the home’s design connects with the surrounding natural beauty of the secluded and peaceful wooded property. The house sits atop a ravine with a babbling creek and has a large variety of oak trees.
A tree-lined driveway leads to the one-level 2,500 square-foot home, which has 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The home also has extensive outdoor space to take in the spectacular views, including a large deck, screened-in-porch with built-in buffet and wrap-around patio.
The central focus of the house is the open great room with soaring roof with clerestory windows, walls of glass, built-in book shelves and natural stone stove fireplace and mantel. A rock waterfall leads to the large deck through sliding glass doors and helps blend inside and out.
The great room also includes a formal dining area with built-in china cabinet. Just off the dining area is a large eat-in kitchen.
In addition to the master suite, which opens to the back deck and indoor plunge pool and hot tub (which both convey as-is), the home has four addition bedrooms, including a private guest room and bathroom. The master and second both room both have double sinks.
The two-car garage with attached garden shed provides ample storage. The house also has a back-up generator with automatic transfer switch and zoned cooling. Here’s the floorplan below:
Moyaone Reserve is contiguous to Piscataway National Park, home of the National Colonial Farm, and to The Hard Bargain Farm, an environmental education center. The neighborhood is located across the across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon home. All the lots in Moyaone Reserve are more than 5 acres and are protected by scenic easements deeded to the federal government. Community amenities include a swimming pool and community center, playground, community garden, nature trails, boardwalk through wetlands and summer concerts and outdoor theater.
